Shoutout to the $2 stakes I cut from an old broom handle
I was so mad last weekend. My tent stakes kept pulling out of the ground at Lake Cachuma and my whole setup fell over twice in one night. I almost drove home at 2am. Then my friend showed me a dumb trick: just cut old broom handles into 8 inch pieces and sharpen the ends with a pocket knife. Cost me nothing since the broom was already trash. Those things held through 30 mph gusts the next night while my $40 fancy stakes sat in the bag. So what else am I overpaying for that a hardware store scrap pile could handle?
