TIL I've been packing my sleeping bag wrong for years
I was helping my friend set up his tent at a site near Lake Tahoe last weekend, and he asked why I was stuffing my bag into its sack like a wadded-up t-shirt. He showed me how he rolls his loosely from the foot end and then gently stuffs it, which took half the time and didn't look like a fight. I tried it at home with my old 20-degree bag, and it packed down smaller and fluffed up way better that night. It seems so simple, but I guess I never watched anyone else do it. Has anyone else found a basic gear trick that made you feel a bit silly for not knowing sooner?

Always crammed mine in like a trash bag. Saw a guy at the trailhead just loosely rolling his up and it clicked. Felt like an idiot.

Read that rolling works better for down bags.
