Used to think camp shoes were a waste of space. Walking back from the lake in wet boots fixed that idea.

Ever gone without them and paid the price? Lesson learned the hard way.

Ugh, that cold, squelchy walk back is the worst kind of teacher. It's not just about the wet boots either, it's that amazing feeling of letting your feet dry out and breathe at the end of the day. That switch changes your whole mood at camp, like a tiny reset button. Totally worth the space now for that bit of comfort.

Spare shoes just never made the cut for me. I'd rather use that pack space for an extra layer or more food. My trail runners get soaked but they dry crazy fast if you stuff them with newspaper overnight. Maybe king.andrew learned one way, but I learned my feet toughen up after a few days. That camp comfort moment for me is about shedding the whole damp sock feeling by the fire, not changing shoes.
