A neighbor's tip about a job opening led to my current position. Grateful for local connections.

That's how it often works around here. Someone putting in a word for you carries way more weight than a random online application. It just feels more personal and less like shouting into the void.

My buddy was sending out resumes for months without a single call back. His old boss from a summer job ran into him at the grocery store and asked what he was up to. That guy made one phone call to a friend who managed a warehouse, just like @ross.felix said about someone putting in a word. He started the next week. Those random chats can totally change your luck when the whole online application thing feels broken.

Man, that makes me think of all the times I've seen someone at the grocery store and just hid behind a cereal box. Guess I'm not getting a sweet job offer that way. Who knew being bad at small talk was a career blocker?
