Got laid off 3 weeks before my wedding, and I still can't decide if taking the first job offer was smart or desperate
So 6 months ago I got called into a conference room on a Friday at 4pm, and my manager said the words every person dreads, my role was being cut effective immediately. My wedding was 3 weeks away in Charleston, we had already put down $8,000 in deposits, and I sat in my car in the parking lot for a good hour just staring at the dash. I did the math that night and the severance plus our savings would cover about 4 months of bills, but the thought of walking into my own wedding with no job felt awful. Here's where I need people to weigh in. I took the very first offer that came my way, 12 days later, a job in a different field that paid $9,000 less than what I was making before. Part of me says I should have held out, kept interviewing, and found something that actually fit my career path. The other part of me says in that spot, with a wedding and a lease in a city I can't afford to leave, you take the lifeboat when it shows up. My best friend keeps saying I should have just done gig work for a few months and held out for the right role. So did I do the right thing grabbing the first lifeline, or did I panic and set myself back a year? Anyone been in this exact spot right before a big life event?
