Just realized my resume was getting auto-rejected because of one stupid line I copied from a friend
I was at a coffee shop in Austin a few weeks ago and overheard two recruiters talking about how they filter resumes before a human ever sees them. One of them laughed and said if your resume says 'seeking a challenging role' anywhere on it, it gets tossed because it sounds like every other one they get. I went home and checked mine and sure enough that exact phrase was sitting right at the top under my name. I had been applying to jobs for about 4 months with almost no callbacks, maybe 2 out of 60 applications, and I honestly thought the market was just brutal. I rewrote that section to say what I actually did at my old job with real numbers, like cutting ticket times by 15%, and got 4 interviews in 3 weeks. Has anyone else found out a single sentence was quietly killing their applications? What else are recruiters skipping over that we don't know about?
Skip the buzzwords and show the receipts. Recruiters scan for numbers and real results, not filler lines that match a million other resumes. Keep it plain and specific and you'll get way more bites.
