Rant: My boss said 70% of resumes get tossed in 6 seconds, so I timed mine
My manager Dana told me last month that recruiters spend about 6 seconds on a first look at a resume, and I honestly thought she was exaggerating. So I sat in the break room with a stopwatch and timed myself reading my own resume like a stranger would. I spent 4 of those 6 seconds just finding my job title, which is buried under a summary paragraph about how I am a hard worker. I moved my title and two real numbers to the top that same night and got 3 callbacks in two weeks instead of zero in five months. Has anyone else timed their own resume like this, or is 6 seconds way off?
