Showerthought: I thought always being the first one in and last out proved dedication. Burnout proved me wrong.

Honestly, that whole "first in, last out" thing feels like such a trap. I get the idea, but it mostly just sets you up to be tired and annoyed. It's like we're all pretending to be super important when most jobs just need you to do your work and go home. Burnout sucks, but sometimes I wonder if we make a bigger deal out of it than needed. Maybe the real fix is just clocking out on time without feeling guilty about it.

Wall Street bonuses go to the first in, last out crowd.

Watched a friend in finance kill himself with those hours. He'd be at his desk before sunrise, order dinner to the office most nights. His bonus was huge, sure, but he missed his kid's first steps and ended up in the hospital with stress issues. They paid him for his time, but they bought all of his time. Now he says no amount of money fixes that kind of regret.
