Vent: I stopped using a cover letter for 50 job apps and got way more interviews.

After my manager in Chicago said 'nobody reads those anymore,' I tried it and got 8 callbacks in two weeks, which makes me think we're all wasting time on a pointless step.

Sunk cost only applies to past investments.

Yeah, my last job hunt I stopped after the first ten apps got no replies. Just used a short intro in the email instead. It felt wrong but it worked, and that's what @rubyschmidt means about sunk cost, right? We keep doing it because we already put so much time in.
