Dropped $340 on a Festool domino joiner for a 6 piece cabinet run, and it sits in the case now
Bought a Domino DF 500 about 8 months back because a guy on a job in Portland swore it would cut my cabinet build time in half. Spent $340 on the tool plus another $90 on the tenon assortment, thinking I was set. Ran it on a 6 piece run of maple uppers and the joints came out fine, but I spent more time dialing the fence and dealing with tearout on figured stock than I ever did cutting mortises by hand. On top of that, the thing collects dust now because most of my work is trim and built ins where a biscuit joiner and some glue does the same job for a third of the cost. I get that it has its place in production shops, but for a one man operation doing custom work, that money bought me maybe two hours of saved time total. If anyone here runs one daily, what am I doing wrong with the setup, or is this just one of those tools that only pays off when you're batching 50 doors at a time?
