Switched from pocket screws to dowels on a cabinet build and never going back
I used pocket screws for years on face frames because it was fast, but the alignment issues on a Murphy bed project in Tulsa last month drove me crazy. Has anyone else found dowel joints to be way more solid even if they take a bit longer?

Dowels have been around forever for a reason, but it's not like pocket screws are complete junk either. Sounds more like a specific project problem than a universal truth.

Haha, yeah I've been there with pocket screws and alignment issues. I swear my Murphy bed ended up looking like it was built by a drunken octopus with those things. Dowels definitely feel more solid even if I spend twice as long squinting at the alignment marks and swearing under my breath. Plus nothing beats that moment when you tap them in and everything actually sits flush on the first try.

Honestly I used to be team pocket screws all the way, but a dowel joint that fits perfectly is just so satisfying it changed my mind lol.
