Showerthought: a $3 rubber doorstop saved my 30 foot flue run in Gary

Had a nasty blockage about 12 feet up a 30 foot stack in Gary last month and my rods kept skipping off the bend no matter how I angled them. I wedged a $3 rubber doorstop against the pipe wall to center the rod, and that thing walked right past the shelf on the first try like it was nothing. Anyone else using household junk to fake a guide, or am I just lucky this worked?
