Appreciation post: the free air compressor at my library branch saved me $180 on tires
So my library here in Fort Wayne has this little tool lending section tucked behind the DVDs and I swear nobody knows about it. I was about to drop $180 at the tire shop to get my tires topped off and rotated, which honestly felt steep, and the guy behind the desk mentioned the library checks out an air compressor for three days at a time. I checked it out with my library card, drove home, filled all four tires in maybe ten minutes, and returned it the next morning. The thing that bugs me is how many people in this community keep saying the only real climate action is buying an EV or solar panels, when a $0 library card kept my tires at the right pressure and saved some gas along the way. Underinflated tires burn extra fuel, that is just facts, and it costs nothing to fix if you know where to look. My neighbor has been paying the shop every couple months for the same thing and had no clue the branch two blocks from his house lends one out. Has anyone else found a tool library or repair cafe in their area, and what have you actually checked out from it?
Did you know some libraries lend out things like cake pans and board games too? My branch has a weird collection of stuff that people just keep adding to over the years.
