Neighbor's rain barrel comment made me switch to drip irrigation this June
She pointed out my sprinkler was flooding the sidewalk and wasting about 30 gallons a day, so I swapped to a $45 drip kit from the local hardware store in Portland, and now my tomato beds actually dry out between waterings, has anyone else seen a real drop in their water bill after making that switch?

My neighbor Barb did the same thing to me back in 2021, called out my sprinkler soaking her fence and I felt like a jerk. I grabbed a drip kit from the Ace on Powell and ran it along the tomatoes and peppers, maybe 60 feet of tubing total. First bill after that dropped about $22, which is nothing huge but it adds up over a summer. The bigger win for me was the plants, no more soggy roots and way less weeds since you're only watering where you want. My runner beans looked better that July than they had in years. Just check your emitters now and then because a couple of mine clogged up and I didn't notice for a week.
