The disconnect between climate data and coastal development decisions

I recall when beach erosion was a slow, natural process. Now, it's accelerated, yet new condos keep popping up on shrinking shorelines. What confuses me is how these projects pass environmental reviews when the science is clear. We're investing in properties that might be underwater in decades. Is profit really outweighing long-term survival?

In Florida, I read about new permits for oceanfront construction even after those brutal hurricane seasons. It feels like we're watching a slow-motion disaster funded by our own tax dollars sometimes. The environmental reviews seem to prioritize short-term economic gains over actual sustainability metrics. How do we get communities to demand accountability from these planning boards?

Communities can demand accountability by consistently showing up to public meetings. We organized a group to present data on long-term risks at every zoning board session. It was tedious, but eventually the board started to listen beyond developer proposals.

Sustainability metrics are in there, but @cooper.drew proved they require constant pushing.
