Why does everyone say you need a fancy CAM setup for simple brackets, my free version cut 40 of them just fine
I keep seeing people in here say you have to drop $500+ on CAM software or your parts will come out garbage, but I just ran a batch of 40 corner brackets for a buddy's shop shelves using the free version that came with my machine and every hole lined up perfect. The trick was ditching the fancy adaptive toolpaths and just running a plain 2D contour with a 0.02 inch finish pass, plus I set my feed at 28 inches per minute on 3/16 aluminum plate and it ate through it clean with no chatter. Took me about 9 minutes per part but I wasn't babysitting it and I never broke a single 1/8 inch end mill. Everyone I know who spent big money on software is still dialing in their speeds and breaking tools, so I'm honestly confused what the extra cash is buying. Has anyone here gone back to basic toolpaths after trying the expensive stuff, and did it actually help you or just make setup more of a headache?
