The $600 probe I bought that never touched a single part
Bought a used Renishaw touch probe from an auction site for 600 bucks thinking I scored big. Turns out the wiring harness was toast and the seller listed it as 'untested'. After 3 weeks of fighting with it and 150 more in cables, I gave up and went back to my old edge finder. Anyone else get burned by 'untested' tooling deals on auction sites?
Laughed at the edge finder part because I did the same thing with a “lightly used” Kurt vise that showed up with the jaws welded shut. Spent two weekends soaking it in PB Blaster and tapping it like I was defusing a bomb. My wife kept asking why I was mad at a chunk of metal in the garage. $600 plus cables hurts, but at least you finally stopped dumping money into it. Some of us kept buying “untested” stuff three more times before we learned.
