My 8 year old nephew looked at my Python code for 10 seconds and asked why I repeat myself so much
I was showing him my little quiz game at my sister's place in Toledo and he pointed at the screen and said 'you wrote the same thing 6 times, that's lazy.' Now I'm 3 hours into learning what a function actually does and I have never felt so called out by a kid who still eats glue.
The "wrote the same thing 6 times" thing is worth looking at though, because it might not be a function problem at all. A lot of times when you repeat code it's because you're copy pasting the same block over and over, and a loop actually cleans that up better than a function does. Functions are more for when you want to name a chunk of code and run it again later with different stuff, like a quiz question that takes the question and answer as input. So your nephew was right that something was lazy, but the fix he's hinting at might be a for loop, not a def.
