TIL I wrote my first working calculator in Python after 6 failed tries and screamed a little
I started learning Python about 5 weeks ago using the free course on the Mimo app, mostly on my lunch breaks. Last night at 11pm something finally clicked and my little calculator actually ran without crashing. It was a dumb one that just adds and subtracts two numbers, but I typed in 7 plus 5 and got 12 and I literally clapped in my empty kitchen. The thing that got me was finally understanding how the input function hands off a string and why I had to wrap it in int to do math. I had been copying code for days without getting what the parentheses and quotes were even doing. For people further along, what was the first tiny program that made you feel like you actually got it?
