Walked a high school job in Austin and the GC's crew was running romex through the same stud bays as the plumber's pex
Got a call to check why the fire alarm kept shorting on a renovation at Austin High and found two trades sharing one hole with zero bushings, so is this just standard practice now or am I the only one who still pays for a licensed electrician on every rough-in?

Man, I gotta push back on this one. Sharing a stud bay isnt some hack job move, it's just how you get a rough-in done on a tight schedule. You're acting like the romex and pex are gonna start a fight in there, but they're both just sitting in a wall doing their own thing. And bushings, honestly, on a 1-1/8 hole, the code nerds will say you need them, but ive seen way sketchier stuff pass final inspection in this town. If you're paying a licensed sparky to stand around and watch a plumber run his lines, that's on you for hiring someone who cant communicate with the other trades on site. The shorting issue, idk, sounds more like a bad wire strip or a staple too tight than the lack of a bushing, but blaming the shared hole is an easy out. Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather have a crew that talks to each other than a guy who charges extra to complain about everyone else's work.
