A weird power supply issue on a Dell OptiPlex 3070

I had a Dell OptiPlex 3070 on my bench yesterday that would power on for exactly 3 seconds then shut off. No beeps, no video. I thought it was the motherboard at first, but after testing with a known good PSU from my spare parts bin, it booted right up. The original power supply tested fine on my basic load tester, but it just wouldn't run the actual system. Has anyone else run into a PSU that passes a bench test but fails under a real load on a specific model?

Honestly that sounds like a fluke more than some big design flaw. Tbh a basic load tester won't catch every weird edge case with a specific motherboard. Seen it before where a supply seems fine but just doesn't play nice with one particular system. Probably just a bad unit you got unlucky with.

My old Corsair unit did the same thing with a Gigabyte board. The power supply passed a basic test but crashed the system under any real load. It's a frustrating kind of luck to get a unit that only fails in one specific setup.

So did you ever figure out what the actual problem was?
