Hot take: a $15 cable tester beats my $300 tone and probe kit for most jobs
I picked up a cheap Klein Scout Pro 3 at the supply house in Boise last month just to have a spare in the van, and I keep grabbing it over my expensive kit now. For basic runs under 300 feet it tells me opens, shorts, and miswires in about 5 seconds, no walking back and forth to the panel needed. My boss laughed when I told him, but on the last 12 jobs I only pulled out the tone and probe twice, both times for cable buried in a finished wall. Anyone else finding their cheap tester does 90 percent of the work? Curious if the Fluke guys think I am crazy here.
