I labeled every cable in a 42U rack backwards and didn't catch it for 2 years
About 6 months ago I was doing a switch swap at a client site in Tacoma and noticed my port 24 label was on port 1 and it hit me that I'd been numbering one to twenty four the reverse of how everyone else counts. I checked the whole rack and sure enough every single label was flipped, which means every tech who came after me probably plugged into the wrong port at least once. It finally clicked when the new guy said "wait, why is your countdown going the other way" and I just stood there feeling dumb. I've since redone all 24 labels with a label maker and a sharpie backup, but I keep thinking about how many tickets that cost somebody. Has anyone else ever discovered a habit like this years later, or is it just me?
