Local customers trying PC fixes on their own more often now

Just had a guy come in with a laptop he tried to repaste using a forum guide and now the fan won't spin right. One side says this means less easy jobs for us like thermal paste swaps. The other side thinks it gets people interested and might lead to more business for tougher issues. What's your take on this growing DIY vibe in our field?

Look at it this way, every messed up DIY job is basically a free ad for your skills. That guy with the laptop fan? He's not going back to the forum, he's coming to you with his wallet out. These attempts make people see how tricky our work really is. They try the simple stuff, fail, and then respect what we do. Honestly, it just means the easy paste swaps turn into bigger, better paying fixes when they strip a screw or crack the heatsink. This vibe is just creating more aware customers who will pay for real help.

Is there some secret pact among repair folks to not share the actually helpful tips? I've tried enough DIY fixes to know my limits, like that time I made a simple leak way worse. @the_tyler is right though, those fails definitely make you respect the real pros.

Ever see a DIY fix that totally backfired? My friend followed some forum steps to install a new power supply. He hooked the cables up wrong, fried the whole system. The repair bill was huge, but now he brings us all his tech issues.
