A messy dye spill got me reading ingredient labels differently
I tipped over a bottle of permanent color during a busy appointment, and it went everywhere on my station. Cleaning it up, I noticed how strong the smell was and started thinking about where all these chemicals end up after we rinse them out. Now I'm trying to find color lines with less ammonia and more natural stuff, but it's tough to balance performance. Anyone have suggestions for vibrant colors that don't hurt the environment as much?

Spilled permanent color last week and it made me rethink everything. @drew_park's point about wastewater bugs is something I never considered before.

Wow, nobody talks about what happens at the water treatment plant. Those chemicals can mess with the bugs that clean our wastewater, even in tiny amounts. It's a whole other layer to the problem we never see.

Try switching to semi-permanent color if you can. I had a similar wake-up call last year. The stuff in permanent dye, especially the developers, is brutal on those water systems. Semi-perm just coats the hair shaft so it doesn't need the same harsh chemistry. It fades faster, but it's way less nasty going down the drain.
