My foils were too thick for 2 years, a coworker pointed it out in 10 seconds

I always wondered why my balayage looked blocky, then this stylist in Portland watched me do one section and asked if I was using a full slice instead of a half, and I realized I'd been doubling my foil weight the entire time, so has anyone else had a basic technique flaw that took someone else to spot?
