Used to spend 20 minutes mixing custom foundation shades by hand like some kind of alchemist

Now I just eyeball it with a tiny spatula and hope for the best, ever since I dropped my mixing palette at a bridal party in Portland last June. Has anyone else gotten lazier with their color matching or is it just me?

That "like some kind of alchemist" part got me. I read somewhere that most people actually overmix their foundation and end up with a shade that's too warm. Ever since I heard that I just do what you do, dab a little of this and a little of that on the back of my hand and smear it around. Dropping a mixing palette sounds like a nightmare though, I'd probably just quit and go full tinted moisturizer after that.

That whole mixing thing reminds me of how we treat so many things these days like a science experiment when really it's just about finding what works for you. @gavinw45 is right that people overthink it and end up making things worse instead of trusting their gut. Same with recipes or furniture assembly, we're so scared of messing up that we forget the simple way usually works fine.
