I finally turned on 2FA after my bank account got hit for $1,800, and I wish I'd picked the app years sooner
Back in the day I used the same password for everything and figured SMS codes were fine. What made you switch to an authenticator app, or are you still rolling with texts?
SMS codes aren't totally useless though, they still stop most random attacks. The real problem is SIM swapping, where someone talks your phone company into moving your number to their SIM. That's when texts fall apart. An app is way safer for that reason alone.
