The smell test: that funky carpet smell in dead malls is NOT mold, and I can prove it
I keep seeing people on here call that weird sweet musty smell in empty malls "mold" but it's not, it's the old carpet glue and rubber backing breaking down, and I smelled the exact same thing at the dead Sears wing of Rolling Acres in Akron back in March. I worked mall maintenance for 4 years so I know the difference, real mold smells like wet dirt and this smells more like a burned rubber band mixed with old crayons. Next time you're shooting pics in an abandoned anchor store, get low near the baseboards and tell me I'm wrong. Anyone else notice this or am I the only one sniffing carpets in dead malls?
