PSA: I picked a free tablet app over a paid one for my webcomic and the line quality surprise got me
For the past two months I've been drawing a short webcomic about my cat's war against the mail lady, and I hit a wall picking my main drawing app. The paid one everyone raves about runs about $10 a month, and the free one has ads but no sub. I went with the free one mostly because I'm cheap, and honestly the brush engine on it feels smoother to me. The catch is the free version exports at a lower size, so my line art goes a little soft when I zoom in. I found a workaround by drawing at 3000px and scaling down when I export, and that pretty much fixed it. I posted page 4 to my little group chat last night and two people asked what program I used, which never happens. Now I'm wondering if the paid app is worth it just for the cleaner export, or if I should stay put and keep doing the scale down trick. Anyone here switch apps mid project and regret it, or did it work out?
So you're drawing your cat at 3000px just to beat an ad-supported app's export limit, that's a level of commitment the mail lady never asked for. Ten bucks a month versus a scale-down trick you already nailed, feels like the paid app is mostly selling you peace of mind you don't seem to need.
