Vent: I think the push for 3D in every digital piece is getting out of hand

For years, I was convinced my art wasn't 'real' unless I was building complex 3D scenes in Blender. I'd spend weeks modeling a single character, just to render a flat image for my portfolio. The shift happened last year after a project for a local cafe in Seattle. They just wanted a simple, bold menu design. I did it in Procreate in two hours, and they loved it more than any of my 3D work. It made me realize I was adding layers of complexity that didn't serve the final image. Now, I start with 2D sketches and only go 3D if the concept truly needs that depth, like for an animation. It feels more honest to the idea. Has anyone else felt pressured to use tools that just aren't right for the job?

Yeah, I was the same way until recently.

Actually @king.andrew, I still see it the other way. The old method just works better for me because it's simpler and I get fewer mistakes. I tried the new way last week and it just caused more problems.

Honestly that cafe story hits home, like maybe we all overthink this stuff. I mean @baker.eva has a point about sticking with what works without the extra headache. Sometimes the simple tool is just the right one.
