I just hit 500 layers on a single drawing file and it felt wrong

I was working on a big commercial site plan in AutoCAD last week, and the layer list just kept growing. I added one for existing trees, another for proposed lighting, and it never stopped. When I finally checked, the count was over 500. Everyone says more layers means better organization, but this felt messy and slow. My computer started to lag every time I froze a batch. Has anyone else found that too many layers actually makes a drawing harder to work with?

Used to think more layers was the goal... but a list that long just becomes a wall you have to search through every time.

Yeah, that's the tipping point. It stops being helpful and just becomes noise. I start grouping similar stuff into parent layers, like all site lighting under one main layer I can turn off. Cuts down the clutter in the list big time.

Ever notice how this happens with too many browser tabs too? It feels organized until it just becomes a wall of noise.
