Appreciation post: The crew that helped me fix a 40-year-old hydraulic valve in a single shift
We found a local machinist who could make the replacement part for $150, and had the elevator running before the building manager even knew it was down. Anyone else have a go-to person for impossible-to-find parts?

Seriously, how do you even find a machinist that good and that fast?

Yeah, and when you do find one, they're booked solid for the next two years. I had a guy like that for a custom bracket, bennett.riley, and it was pure luck a friend gave up their slot. The good ones just have this... feel for the metal, you know? They don't even seem to be rushing but the parts just stack up perfect. It's a whole different level.

Guess you need to know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy.
