Oversalted pasta water ruined my dinner

I added a lot of salt to the boiling water like I was told, but the pasta came out too salty. How do you get the seasoning right without overdoing it?

Seriously, is the dinner totally ruined though? From what I've seen, pasta can take a good amount of salt before it's actually bad. I just use a small spoonful, not the whole shaker, and it usually works out. Taste the water first, that's my go-to move. If it's too strong, a quick rinse or some plain sauce can save it easy.

Totally get that panic lol. Last time I overdid the salt, just tossed in some lemon juice while it was still hot. Actually balanced it out pretty well.

@maxm35, I've had pasta turn out way too salty even with careful measuring. Once it's oversalted, rinsing just makes it soggy, and plain sauce doesn't always cover it up.
