My therapist's journaling fix isn't fixing anything

I give it a shot every night. Always end up staring at a blank page, any advice?

Forced creativity almost never works. It's like when your boss makes a lame team-building exercise mandatory and suddenly no one has a single idea. The pressure to perform turns a maybe-helpful thing into a total chore. Maybe you're trying to write a novel when you just need to scribble a few angry words or even a dumb doodle. What if you just wrote one line about the most annoying part of your day?

Pressure actually helps me get started sometimes. When I have a deadline, it forces my brain to focus and come up with ideas. Sure, it might feel like a chore at first, but that initial push can lead to real creativity. I've written some of my best stuff when I had to meet a goal. Without that outside force, I'd just procrastinate forever. Maybe it's about using the pressure as a tool instead of seeing it as a block.

Try writing for just three minutes without stopping your pen.
