Fixing a busted AC unit ruined my first day in Phoenix
I flew out to visit family and walked into a rental house that felt like an oven. The AC was blowing warm air, and the property manager said it would be a day before a tech could come. I wasn't about to sweat it out in 110-degree heat, so I popped the outdoor unit open myself. Found the capacitor was swollen and clearly shot. Had to drive to a local hardware store, buy a replacement, and figure out the wiring with my phone's help. Got it running, but my whole afternoon was gone dealing with a repair that wasn't my job. It's crazy how a simple part can strand you without cool air. This trip just reminded me that basic troubleshooting skills are a lifesaver, even when you're supposed to be on break.
