inI finally figured out my miter saw cuts were off after 2 years because I never checked the blade was truly square to the fence
That half degree adds up fast when you're doing trim work. Did you find the blade was leaning left or right from square?

inDoor sensor fell off mid-install yesterday
Right on, screws are the ONLY way to go for a door sensor that's gonna last. That tape stuff just can't handle the temperature swings and the door slamming over time. A couple of small screws and some anchors in the door frame and you're set for years, no drama.

inRant: Why do competition cooks act like offset smokers are the only way to go?
...and what nobody's talking about is how those offset guys would probably lose their minds if they actually tried cooking on a charcoal basket with a fan controller. I've seen it happen. You get a guy who's been running an offset for twenty years, he's all about tending the fire every hour, splitting logs by hand, and he tries a kamado with a blower and it sits at 250 degrees for twelve hours without touching it. He gets this look on his face like he just found out his wife's been lying about her age. The real kicker is the flavor difference. A well set up kamado with good lump charcoal and some wood chunks is gonna put out bark that's damn near as good as any offset, and it's not even close to a pellet grill. But they won't hear it because they're married to the ritual.

inWasted $40 on that fancy automatic taper tool from Amazon
Tossed that thing in the trash after watching it spit tape everywhere like a broken party streamer. Figured I'd save $40 and some time, ended up wasting double that in frustration and drywall compound. Hand taping ain't that bad once you get the mud consistency right, but I sure do miss the romantic idea of a tool doing all the work for me. Good news is you can use that busted contraption as a paperweight or a conversation starter for your next contractor buddy who's thinking about buying one.
