inI laughed at a foreman for using a 20-year-old level, now I own two
Old tools have a sort of built-in honesty since they've already proven themselves. The new stuff might have more features, but it hasn't been put through the same harsh reality check yet. A cracked bubble that still reads true tells a story you can trust over a digital display that might blink wrong tomorrow.

inDropped 200 bucks on a digital angle finder and it saved my butt on a stair rail job
Stop overthinking it, man. Just drill the holes.

inWarning: My cubicle neighbor's life advice came from a fortune cookie wall
Did Tom at least get the cookie that says "the fortune you seek is in another cookie"? That would be honest. I once got career advice from a guy in my building's elevator who I only knew by his dog's name. He told me to stop waiting for permission and I just started applying for better jobs without telling anyone. It actually worked out okay.

inWalked into a house in Nashville last week...
Who uses 1/4 inch thicker drywall, that's just asking for trouble right there.

inWarning: I spent 3 years folding carpet backing the wrong direction before a 20 year vet pointed it out on a job site in Akron
Started checking the grain on the backing right after reading the direction arrows printed on the roll. Saved me a headache last month when I was laying down some medium pile in my daughter's bedroom. The arrows pointed one way but the backing felt smoother going the opposite direction. Trusted the arrows and ended up having to redo three rows because the seam kept buckling. Now I always test a small strip first before committing to the whole room.
