My smart speaker started recommending stuff based on a private conversation

I was joking with my partner about getting a pet lizard, and the next day my YouTube feed was full of terrarium setup videos. It clicked that the mic is always listening, not just for the wake word. Has anyone else had a 'private' chat turn into targeted ads?

I found my old flip phone from 2008 and the battery still had a charge.

My niece saw it and asked if it was a calculator, then tried to swipe the screen. I explained you had to press the buttons to text, which took forever. Does anyone under 25 even remember T9 word?

Topographic maps from decades ago are killing my survey accuracy

Tried to use a map from the 70s for a current project, and the river channels have moved miles. The contour lines don't match the ground at all. Had to redo entire sections by hand with GPS, which wasted a full day. Why can't we get better resources for basic geology work?

Am I the only one who noticed all the sunrise clocks popping up in my neighborhood?

Lately, I've seen a few houses on my street using clocks that mimic morning light. I think it's because the city messed with the streetlights, so folks want a better wake-up. Do these things really work for feeling less sleepy?

The unmarked alternate on the John Muir Trail shifted my entire approach to route planning...

I had every mile of my hike plotted with military precision... until a rockslide forced me onto a trail not on any map.
