Guy at a coffee shop in Portland told me AI art is just "fancy collage" and it still bugs me a year later
He said every piece I make is just stolen pixels rearranged, and I asked him if he could tell me which specific photos I used and he just shrugged and said "that's not the point" - has anyone else gotten this exact argument and how do you even respond to it?

Oh man, did that guy also say something like "you're basically just typing words and letting a computer do all the work"? I had a dude at a bus stop tell me my AI pieces had no "soul" and when I asked him to define what that even means he just got all huffy and walked away. It's wild how people will throw out these big criticisms but can't actually back them up with anything real. Like, if I asked someone who draws traditionally to tell me exactly which brushes they used and where they got the reference photos from, they'd probably get defensive too. Everyone is building on something that came before, AI just makes the borrowing part really obvious.

Exactly, because a poem I sweat over for hours and a prompt I type in thirty seconds are totally the same thing.
