I paid $300 for a custom AI art piece and it's a total mess

I hired an artist online to make a picture of my dog as a fantasy knight. I sent them 20 photos and paid upfront. What I got back looked like a monster. The face was melted, the armor was just weird shapes, and it had three legs. The artist said the AI 'interpreted' my photos and that's just how it is. I argued but they said no refunds because the AI 'worked'. I feel ripped off. The whole thing makes me question if paying for AI art is just gambling. Has anyone else been burned like this on a custom order?

My $200 dragon portrait taught me that.

Yeah, I used to think that was crazy too.

Remember buying my first piece of fan art for like fifty bucks. Felt like a huge splurge then, but having that exact image from my head on my wall was worth every penny. It's not just a thing, it's a memory of a story I love.
