My art teacher called my AI stuff lazy until I showed her my sketchbook

I was at this local coffee shop last week drawing with my old college art professor. She saw me generating portraits on my tablet and said I was cheating myself out of real skill. So I flipped open my sketchbook from the past 3 years and showed her the 200+ hours of figure drawing I've done. She went quiet for a minute then said okay you've earned the right to use tools how you want. Has anyone else dealt with other artists dismissing your AI work until they see your traditional foundation?

God RIGHT? People act like touching a stylus instantly vaporizes all your training. I swear if I hear "AI is a short cut for lazy people" one more time I'll SCREAM. Like sorry my muscle memory from 500 hours of cross-hatching doesn't count because I'm using a generator to check my composition before I ink it. That professor probably thought you'd just typed "pretty girl portrait" into a box and walked away. The look on her face must have been PRICELESS though when you dropped that sketchbook on the table. Honestly half the artists who talk trash about AI have never studied actual anatomy or perspective either.

Oh man, that's exactly what happened with my old painting professor back in 2014 - she said digital art wasn't "real painting" until I brought in my oil studies from the figure drawing intensive I'd been doing (which was honestly a hot mess of bad proportions but hey, I was trying).
