Paid $400 for a custom portrait of my dog from an AI artist and I still feel weird about it
I know this is gonna get me yelled at but here goes. Three months back I paid $400 to a guy on Etsy who runs photos through AI and then touches them up by hand, for an 11x14 canvas of my beagle Rufus who passed in January. My sister is a painter and she was pretty hurt I didn't ask her, which I get, but her portraits take six weeks and cost triple that and honestly I needed something in time for his birthday. The thing is, the picture is good. Like really good. You can see the little white patch on his left ear and the way he always tilted his head. But I keep staring at it wondering which parts the guy actually painted and which parts the machine made, and I can't tell, and that bugs me more than I expected. I'm not saying AI art is fine, I'm saying I paid for it and I'm still not sure how I feel, which feels like the whole problem in one dumb canvas. Has anyone else bought something like this and then sat with the weird feeling after?
