Spent $2,400 on an AI resume screener for my store, and I think it made worse hires than my gut did
Three months back I paid two grand plus a monthly fee for one of those AI hiring tools that scans resumes and ranks people for my hardware store. The pitch was it cuts bias and saves time, but the top picks it gave me all had the same background, mostly folks from big box stores with zero hands-on tool knowledge. Two of the three it ranked highest quit inside six weeks, while a guy it scored dead last is now my best weekend crew lead. I'm not saying AI can't help, but this crowd acts like every hiring decision is a math problem when some of it is just knowing who will show up and actually work. My question is this: has anyone here seen real proof these tools pick better people, or are we all just paying for the feeling that we did it the scientific way?
