Unpopular opinion: Seeing robots sort packages at the local hub changed how I view work...

Used to be a mix of people and machines, now it's all arms and scanners moving boxes... heard they cut half the night shift last year. Folks who worked there for ages just got a notice and a check, no talk about retraining. It's fast and cheap, but what happens to all that skill and community... feels wrong to toss people out like that.

Hearing about "toss people out like that" reminds me of a book I read. It said automation moves fast, but we're slow to help the people affected, just like you pointed out.

Slow to help" is putting it lightly. We're moving at dial-up speeds while the robots are on fiber optic. Classic.

Lol, @robinson.wren, automation's on fast forward but our help is buffering forever.
