Appreciation post: My fridge's AI scanner stopped me from buying duplicates

I was at the store about to grab milk when my phone buzzed. My smart fridge's AI had scanned my groceries earlier and knew I had plenty. It sent a quick alert to skip it, which saved me cash and cut waste. The app even popped up a soup recipe to use up my extra veggies.

My buddy told me his smart fridge did the same thing last week. He almost bought extra eggs but got an alert that he still had a dozen. Tbh, it saved him from wasting food and money, which is pretty cool.

Wait it knew exactly how many eggs were left? That's wild lol. @joel603, the saving money part is cool but my fridge counting my food feels kinda creepy. Like it's watching everything I take out. What if it starts judging my snack choices? I get the point about waste, but that's a lot of trust in a machine that just keeps things cold.

Remember when phones tracking our location felt like a huge privacy red flag, and now we let maps follow us everywhere for traffic updates. We're just handing over more little bits of daily life to these background helpers, from our pockets to our kitchens. It starts with saving money on eggs and ends with us not even blinking when the fridge suggests dinner. The weird factor fades fast when the convenience is right there in your hand.
