Appreciation post: the AI that caught my invoice typo before payroll ran
I run a small shop in Dayton and last month I almost paid a vendor $4,700 instead of $470. It was a simple transposition error on a three-page invoice. My AI bookkeeping tool flagged it at 6 AM on a Tuesday while I was still in bed. I didn't trust it at first because it had given me two false alerts that week. But when I double checked the PDF, there it was. If that check had gone through, I would have been short on payroll for three guys. Now I let the AI flag everything and I just glance at the reasons. Has anyone else had a near miss like that where the tool turned out to be right after a few false alarms?
Man, that's wild. I had something kinda similar but with my bank's fraud alert, not an AI. It pinged me three times in one week about a $2 coffee shop charge in Columbus while I was sitting in Dayton, and I almost turned the alerts off out of pure annoyance. Then on the fourth day it flagged a $900 purchase at a Best Buy in Cleveland, which I definitely didn't make. Now I treat every alert like it's real, even the dumb ones, because that one time it actually saved me makes up for all the false alarms. It's like the boy who cried wolf, except the wolf finally showed up and I'm glad I didn't ignore it.
