Dropped $200 on an AI writing assistant and my traffic tanked for 3 weeks
I bought into that Jasper AI hype last month and used it to crank out 15 blog posts in one day for my gardening site. Google hit me with a manual action after the last update and my organic traffic dropped from 2,000 visits a day to maybe 50. Has anyone else seen their sites get dinged after using ai tools heavy?

15 posts in one day with an AI tool is just bad strategy period, not necessarily a sign that AI content itself is dead. @grantschmidt is right that Google caught you but wrong about why. Google dinged you for crap quality and keyword stuffing, not for using AI at all. Plenty of top ranking sites use AI to help with outlines and drafts then rewrite everything to sound like a real human wrote it. Your mistake was hitting publish on robot copy without editing it at all. $200 on Jasper is fine if you treat it like a research assistant instead of a ghostwriter. The real lesson here is learn to blend AI output with your own voice or just stick to writing yourself.

Classic move. Google's basically saying "thanks for the 200 bucks now here's a manual action for your trouble." 15 posts in one day from gardening to... whatever that AI nonsense was. Bet it sounded like a robot reading a seed catalog. Those tools are great at making word soup but terrible at sounding human. Your poor garden site probably got flagged for sounding like every other AI garden site out there.

What nobody is talking about is how Google just updated their spam guidelines two weeks before this happened. They specifically added language about "scalable content automation" which is exactly what pumping out 15 AI posts in a day is. So it's not even about the AI being detectable or not, it's about the scale being a red flag. If you had spread those same 15 posts over 3 weeks and actually rewritten them to fit your brand, you probably would have been fine. But doing it all in one day with an AI tool screams "I don't actually care about this site I just want traffic" and Google is sick of that.
