My neighbor Deb talked me into trying tofu in the air fryer

I always thought tofu was bland and mushy, no offense to anyone who likes it. But my neighbor Deb brought over some air fryer tofu nuggets last Saturday that were golden and crispy on the outside. She said the trick is pressing it for 30 minutes first and tossing it in cornstarch before cooking. I tried her recipe at 400 degrees for 12 minutes and it actually came out great. Has anyone else found a tofu recipe that finally worked for them?

Gave up on tofu years ago after trying to cook it in a pan and ending up with sad, soggy cubes that tasted like nothing. But then my sister air fried some with buffalo sauce and I basically ate the whole batch standing at her counter. Guess the air fryer is the magic trick for making healthy food actually taste good.

ate the whole batch standing at her counter" - this is so me though! The air fryer really does make a huge difference with tofu. Now I'm curious though, what kind of buffalo sauce did she use? Like was it a bottled one or did she mix it up herself? I always struggle with getting the sauce to actually stick to the tofu without it turning into a watery mess. Also did she press the tofu first or just cube it straight from the package? I've tried both ways and it seems like pressing makes a big difference in how crispy it gets, but sometimes I'm too lazy to wait the 30 minutes.
