Showerthought: the torque wrench click I ignored on a CRJ flap track cost us 4 hours
Was doing a flap track lube on a CRJ-200 in Boise last week. Felt the wrench click at 90 inch pounds but gave it a little extra bump out of habit from working on cars. The bolt stretched. Had to pull the whole assembly and wait on a new one. Foreman just looked at me and said nothing for a solid 30 seconds. Now I stop counting when I hear the click. Anyone else have a bad habit that followed them from auto to airframes?
That click at 90 inch pounds is like a suggestion to my brain after 15 years of ugga duggas on Honda Civics. My old shop had a guy who used a 1/2 inch impact on everything, I swear he would have rattle gunned a satellite into orbit if you let him. So now I am standing there on the flight line fighting every car guy reflex telling me one more bump wont hurt. That foreman silence is the loudest thing in aviation, dude just stares at you like you personally insulted his family line. Bet the new bolt and 4 hours of paperwork taught you more than any torque class ever did.
